The fourth general electoral process after the implementation of the multi-party system in the country was held in a peaceful and generally orderly environment. Several improvements such as new regulations to control party finances and a code of conduct for political parties contributed to increase transparency. In Zanzibar, the acceptance of the election results by the competing parties and the will of each one to form a working cabinet will be paramount to the success of the government of national unity (GNU) approved by the Zanzibaris last July.
